Today, we are highlighting Reid Owen, our Head Chef at Red Pump Kitchen in Charlottesville, Va. Reid has lived in Charlottesville his entire life. He credits his loving family to getting him where he is today. His grandfather is from Italy and taught him everything he knows.
Check out the following Q&A with Reid to learn more, then head over to Red Pump Kitchen on the Charlottesville Downtown Mall to see his culinary skills firsthand!
How long have you been at Red Pump Kitchen?
I have been at Red Pump for a little over two years. I was originally Sous Chef but recently became the Head Chef.
What’s your favorite part about working at RPK?
My favorite part of what I do at Red Pump is getting to actively learn how to lead a team of truly amazing and talented cooks, without whom I would be nothing. After all, the measure of a great chef is how many great chefs you can create.
What’s your favorite dish on the menu?
My favorite dish (or dishes) on the menu would have to be the pizzas. There is something exciting to me about taking something as simple as pizza and turning it into a delicious work of art.
When you’re not working, what are some of your favorite things to do around Charlottesville?
My favorite thing to do in Charlottesville, or anywhere for that matter, is to spend time with my lovely wife Catherine and my amazing 1-year-old son, James. Although it never really matters what we do, our favorite thing to do is to go to orchards around town and pick anything from strawberries to apples.
