Today, we are highlighting Laura Matheny, our Training Manager at Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards. Laura brings years of experience and a warm, welcoming smile wherever she goes, and can usually be found helping guests in the Tasting Room or out on the Veranda!

How/when did you end up working at Pippin Hill?
I started working at Pippin Hill almost 7 years ago.
What does a day in the life at Pippin Hill look like for you?
A day at Pippin Hill quite frankly looks like home to me. I spend more mornings here with my cup of coffee for beautiful sunrises than I actually do at my own home. Going from a calm morning to so much running around. Solving so many problems and coming up with many solutions. Closing the day with driving out the driveway reflecting on all that we got accomplished.
What is a favorite memory you have from working at Pippin Hill?
There are so many memories that I have at Pippin Hill but the one thing that sticks out to the most was how I went through being pregnant with both of my boys and working here. I started as a 23-year-old engaged girl. Now I am married, with 2 children and I have seen myself grow up at Pippin (literally).
What’s your favorite dish and wine on the Pippin Hill Tasting Room menu?
I am completely obsessed with the Toffee Carrot cake with a glass of Cannon Red.
Favorite spot at Pippin Hill? (to relax, to breathe, etc)
Go to spot is the Reserve Room Veranda. Usual a pretty quiet place.
What are some things you love to do around Charlottesville when you’re not working?
When I am not working I love being with my family We do all the things this beautiful place town has to offer. Carter’s mountain is always a favorite for us. I love to check out new foodie places with my girl friends for lunch ( Marie Bette or Tillman’s). Top 3 picks for eating for my Husband and I are Oakhart Social, Tavola, and the Rooftop in Crozet for some yummy dinners out!
